October at Rally: Costumes, Competition & Community

Halloween is one of the few times a year when adults collectively agree to be a little ridiculous. We dress up. We carve faces into vegetables. We put fake cobwebs on perfectly good furniture. We watch Hocus Pocus on repeat until we've mastered the Bette Midler "BooooOOOK!!!". It's a time to relive our childhoods and lean into the silliness.

That's why we love October at Rally. Around here, you'll find plenty of people who take their pickleball game seriously — they're drilling on Saturday mornings and very much showing up to win. They're also occasionally doing it dressed as a six-foot dinosaur. It's all about balance, people.

Here's everything happening at Rally this October.

Spooky Scramble: Dress Code Unhinged

Four years ago, we threw our first Halloween pickleball tournament. Since then, this event has grown into one of our biggest and most anticipated tournaments of the year.

We've seen dinosaurs take to the court. Ken and Barbie have made an appearance. The Scooby Doo crew has shown up. Last year, we even had a full-blown Furby in the stands. See for yourself. Somehow, the costumes get more elaborate every year, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

On October 30th, Spooky Scramble returns for Year 4 with 64 players, a DJ, a fully decked-out Rally, custom Rally totes for every player, and some of the highest-energy pickleball of the year. And because Halloween is really about the candy, our bar team is getting in on the action with an all-new candy-inspired shot flight. Every player gets a custom Rally tote included with their ticket. Consider it your treat.

Ghoul Duel: No Partner to Blame

If Spooky Scramble is our Halloween showstopper event, Ghoul Duel is its more competitive sibling.

Our second annual 1v1 Halloween-inspired face-off returns Saturday, October 17th. It's the only time all year we ditch the doubles format and make you fend for yourself in a Singles Scramble format. But because this is a Scramble, you're never entirely on your own — players are divided into cohorts, which means every match counts twice: once toward your own individual standing and once toward your group's shot at glory.

It's fast, it's competitive, it's a little ruthless. If that sounds like your jam, come fight for that Ghoul Duel crown.

Rise & Grind: The Training Sessions Worth Knowing About

You may have noticed a few very focused groups taking over the courts on Saturday mornings lately.

For the past month, we've been quietly testing Rise & Grind — a new approach to small-group training at Rally. Rather than opening registration and seeing who shows up, our pros are hand-matching groups of four based on skill level and what they want to work on, then building the drills around that specific group. Each session is focused, hands-on, and built around a tight 4:1 player-to-pro ratio.

We haven't marketed it, but word travels fast around here, and the response has been pretty incredible. We're slowly adding more sessions this October while keeping true to what makes Rise & Grind work: small groups, thoughtful matching, and a lot of individual attention.

If you're an intermediate or advanced player interested in focused training with one of our head pros, this one’s for you.

Hot Girls Hangout: Petals & Pumpkins

If October's Hot Girls Hangout were a person, she'd be Lorelai Gilmore. Pumpkin spice latte in hand, wearing boots and a flannel despite the 78-degree forecast. She's been waiting for this autumnal moment all year.

At this month's Hot Girls Hangout, we're Mod Podging pressed petals and flowers onto mini pumpkins to make the sweetest little fall keepsakes. It's crafting season, ladies.

Come solo or bring your best friend, coworker, sister, mom, or whoever understands that decorative gourd season is upon us. There's no better reason to leave the house on a Wednesday.

Hot Girls Hangout: Petals & Pumpkins is Wednesday, October 14th at 7 PM.

Something New is Coming in November

This November, Rally is introducing PickleBall — a first-of-its-kind holiday event and a very good reason to dust off your dancing shoes.

That's all you get for now. We've already said too much. 🪩

The Rest of October at Rally

Beyond the signature events, the courts are as busy as ever this month. Courts & Coffee, Rally Social, Rookies Social, Rally Royale, and Rally Shuffle are all running every week. Fall leagues are in full swing, and a few spots are still available if you're looking to get in on the action.
